RTX 5060 Ti 16GB Thermal Performance

Measured temperatures under real AI workloads - core, memory, fan curves, and thermal margin headroom for multi-card density.

Thermal behaviour matters for sustained AI workloads. On our UK dedicated GPU hosting, the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB runs cool thanks to its moderate 180 W TDP and Blackwell thermal design. Here are measured numbers from a standard chassis.

Contents

Idle

Persistence mode enabled, no inference activity:

  • Core temperature: 35-45°C
  • Memory temperature: 40-48°C
  • Fan speed: minimal (15-20% PWM)
  • Power draw: ~15-25 W

Under Load

Sustained LLM inference (Llama 3 8B FP8 at full saturation, 16 concurrent users, 2-hour run):

  • Core temperature: 65-75°C
  • Memory temperature: 75-85°C
  • Fan speed: 50-65% PWM
  • Power draw: ~160 W sustained
  • Stable indefinitely

SDXL Lightning batch image generation is more compute-intensive:

  • Core: 72-80°C
  • Memory: 78-85°C
  • Fan: 60-75% PWM
  • Power: ~175 W sustained

Training workloads (QLoRA Mistral 7B, overnight run) hit similar numbers to SDXL sustained.

Memory Temp (GDDR7)

GDDR7 runs a few degrees cooler than GDDR6X at equivalent bandwidth. On decode-heavy workloads, memory temperature stays below 85°C even under sustained load – a meaningful improvement over 3090’s GDDR6X which routinely hits 95°C+ under similar stress.

Throttle Limits

Blackwell throttle thresholds:

  • Core thermal throttle: 85-88°C
  • Core hard shutdown: 93°C
  • Memory thermal alarm: 95°C
  • Memory hard throttle: 105°C

In our standard chassis configuration the 5060 Ti has never approached throttle thresholds under normal load. Our UK datacenter ambient (18-22°C typical) gives generous margin.

Density

At 180 W with strong thermals, the 5060 Ti enables dense chassis:

  • Four cards per standard chassis, all staying under 80°C core
  • Adjacent card thermal crosstalk minimal at this TDP
  • PSU and cooling budget headroom for additional storage and networking

Compare to 5090 (575 W) where 2 cards per chassis is typical and thermal management is a real design constraint. For multi-tenant hosting at scale, the 5060 Ti is the density winner.
